Chippa United coach Kwanele Kopo is now eyeing Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sammy Seabi to strengthen the team ahead of the new season.
The Chilli Boys have been one of the busiest teams in the ongoing transfer window and have so far signed legendary midfielder Andile Jali, Azola Matrose, and Gadinkame Modise among others.
Nigeria international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali also extended his stay at the club despite being linked with a move to top teams. The 27-year-old signed a new three-year deal that will see him serve the club until 2027.
Seabi, next signing for Chippa?
Kopo is now targeting other new players including Masandawana's midfielder before the transfer window closes.
“The transfer window has not closed yet, so we are talking about a few players on the team. I would not like to comment on one player, Sammy Seabi. There’s always speculation about players,” the tactician said according to FarPost.
“I think we all know that Sammy Seabi is a very good midfielder, and an experienced player, having played for Chippa United before. He played for Sundowns and Sekhukhune [United]. Would he be a positive addition to the Chippa family? Definitely.”
Chippa targeting a good mix after last season's struggles
In the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League campaign, Chippa United finished 12th on the table and would be aiming at finishing in an improved position.
Kopo has pointed out his strategy to achieve the team's targets, “We have a few other players because we want to build a team with a good blend of experience and youth,” he continued.
“So we brought in a lot of youngsters; I think we brought more young players than senior players; with Chippa not being a big club financially, we need to be a club that if we are not winning trophies, we need to make a return on investment through the player sale.”
