Mfundo Vilakazi’s late goal secured all three points for Kaizer Chiefs following 1-0 win against Sekhukhune United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.
Vilakazi came off the bench as Chiefs were looking for a breakthrough and took the issue in his own hands, winning possession on the edge of the box, before firing a low shot to grab the victory for the Glamour Boys.
Wandile Duba should have broken the deadlock for Chiefs much earlier when he missed after five minutes and had another chance falling his way in the 17th minute.
Rushwin Dortley also had a chance to give Chiefs the lead via a 10th minute header but Sekhukhune goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangare denied him.
How did Chiefs win it?
Chiefs maintained their dominance with Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Tebogo Potsane also missing while Andy Boyeli and Vuyo Letlapa had chances for the visitors, the latter denied by Bruce Bvuma in the Chiefs goal.
In the second half, the Glamour Boys came close once again, Yusuf Maart seeing his effort from range go over. The Chiefs captain then set up Vilakazi who should have scored 11 minutes from time but missed.
It looked like the game would end 0-0 until Sekhukhune were reduced to 10 men in the 84th minute following a red card to Vuyo Letlapa for a challenge on Vilakazi.
The home side took full advantage two minutes later when Vilakazi won possession and fired into the bottom right corner to hand Chiefs the victory which sees them move to fifth place on the table on 21 points, two behind Babina Noko, who saw their five-match unbeaten run come to an end.
