Former SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has hit out at his ex-player Teko Modise over his sentiments regarding how he left Matsatsanta.
Modise previously explained how he was sold by Hunt because he apparently did not fit into the style, comments that the veteran tactician took great exception with.
The midfielder was lured to SuperSport by ex-coach Pitso Mosimane in 2006 after shining for City Pillars, amid interest from Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
He spent one season at SuperSport before leaving for Orlando Pirates in 2007 when Hunt had just replaced Mosimane and the seasoned trainer has hit out at the ex-Bafana Bafana midfielder over his comments.
Gavin Hunt hits out at his ex-player
“I sit in the media and listen to Teko talk and he talks loads of nonsense because that is not the truth,” Hunt said on Apex Play Book podcast.
“Would I want South Africa’s biggest player to leave the club or you are joking? Then they go on like; ‘we didn’t fit in the style of the team.’
“I got into the plane the week I joined and go to Australia, I don’t know anybody, I sat there by myself, I have got Teko Modise. I can see he has been tapped up by everybody and that is fine.
“We play a game in Australia, two three games, he wins man of the match and I say we’ve got to build the team around this guy.
Modise’s departure was blessing for SuperSport

“We get back, train, week or two. A week before the season starts, my chairman phones me, ‘oh I have had to do this deal. I said what deal? ‘No, no we have had to sell Teko.”
However, Modise’s departure turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Hunt and SuperSport as he signed Mozambican Elias Pelembe who went on to help the club lift the PSL title that season.
Hunt would guide Matsatsanta to two more titles, winning three straight from 2008-2010, while Modise failed to lift the PSL in his four years at Pirates until he signed for Mamelodi Sundowns in 2011, where he won two.
