The Buccaneers’ path could see them get a chance to avenge last season’s loss

Orlando Pirates face the prospect of taking on a familiar opponent in the CAF Champions League following the draw conducted on Thursday.

Pirates will take on Disciples FC from Madagascar in the first preliminary round of this year’s competition and if they prevail, then Botswana giants Jwaneng Galaxy await in the second preliminary round.

Jwaneng Galaxy are coached by South African Morena Ramoreboli who understands the Buccaneers so well and eliminated them from last season’s competition.

Pirates out to right the wrongs of last season

The Soweto giants will be hoping to right the wrongs of last season while the Botswanan club will draw inspiration from their 2023-24 campaign when they also beat Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in their group.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns have been given a bye and will take on the winner between Mbabane Swallows of eSwatini and Clube Ferroviario da Beira of Mozambique in the second preliminary round.

The first preliminary round fixtures will take place between August 16 and 18 with the return legs a week later.
