The Premier Soccer League’s 2025/26 Player of the Season candidate named!

Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and Orlando Pirates have started the season quite well as they push for the crown.

As usual, there are players who have played a huge role in favour of their respective teams. One of them is Bafana Bafana international Oswin Appollis who has been a factor for Pirates.

The 24-year-old was among the new player who joined the Soweto giants at the start of the new edition in the domestic campaign. To date, he has scored four goals and provided five assists across all competitions with latest one coming on Tuesday evening against Chippa United.

Despite doubting his potential, former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has conceded the attacker has proved him wrong.

I’m very surprised

“This boy is more of a contender of the player of the season for me and I know it’s still early,” Khanye told iDiski TV.

“I’m referring to Appollis. I’m an honest person and I know I have been critical of him, but he has proven me wrong. Honestly, he has won Pirates games. I need to be honest I’m very surprised I didn’t expect he’d have such a big heart and big character that’s besides his talent. His decision-making is something else, he’s more of a number 10.

“They play him on the right and look at how deep he dropped supporting the ball to Kabelo Dlamini played on the left-hand side. Good pass from Dlamini and the look at the open body, okay deflection but for the fact that he directed the ball to the far post, well done to the boy. And as I say I’d put him as a contender for player of the season.

“I’m not saying he has won it, but he is raising his hand to say I might be there and go home with something,” he concluded.

Appollis is expected to be among the players who will represent the country in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to be played in Morocco from December 21 to January 18.
