‘The problem is Nabi!’ Chiefs coach on failure to have South African coach in his team & recent struggles

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs tactician Nasreddine Nabi insists that the failure to have a South African-born coach in the technical team is not the reason why the Glamour Boys are having it rough in the ongoing 2024/25 season.

The Tunisian was appointed as the Glamour Boys coach at the beginning of the campaign, taking over from Calvin Johnson, who was serving on an interim basis following the dismissal of Molefi Ntseki.

Nabi came with his team, overlooking local coaches. He has since failed to deliver in the Carling Knockout and is struggling in the Premier Soccer League, where they have lost 10 games out of the 23 played already, winning eight and drawing five. However, the team can still end their decade-long trophy drought since they are in the quarter-final of the Nedbank Cup.

The former Young Africans SC coach says failure to have a local in his technical team is not the reason for the Glamor Boys' struggles.

“I don’t think the problem is that aspect; I feel that everyone who wears a Kaizer Chiefs jersey is South African. I repeat, skills don’t have nationality, you understand. And before I came to South Africa I analysed all the PSL. If you give me a question for game number 20, I’ll give you the performance of Kaizer Chiefs,” Nabi told the media.

“The problem is Nabi. And I want to finish, my staff, if you take this jersey, you are South African you are a Khosi, and the problem is not about nationality and all my staff. We know that if you are professional, you don’t need much time to analyse the PSL,” he concluded.
