Mamelodi Sundowns star Lucas Ribeiro has openly credited his teammates for his seamless transition into South African football, acknowledging their crucial role in his rapid adjustment.

Since joining Masandawana two seasons ago, Ribeiro has proven to be an indispensable figure, consistently delivering pivotal performances.

His exceptional form this season has made him a leading contender for the prestigious Footballer of the Season award, with his contributions across all competitions exceeding 20 goal contributions – a significant factor in helping his side clinch the Betway Premiership title.

He’s competing for the coveted award with Orlando Pirates starlet Relebohile Mofokeng.

“Everyone was just amazing. They helped me adapt quickly, were very welcoming, and we've built a strong connection as a team,” said Ribeiro as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

“They especially helped me with learning English. When I arrived, I couldn't speak the language at all, but thanks to them, I've improved a lot. They've been instrumental in that journey. I feel truly lucky to be part of this group.

“For me, it's not just about being a good footballer, I also want to be a good person off the pitch. I see those same values in my teammates, and that inspires me.”

Lucas Ribeiro demonstrated his scoring prowess yet again, netting a significant goal for Masandawana in the CAF Champions League final first leg against Pyramids.

Despite his effort putting Sundowns ahead, the match concluded in a 1-1 draw, a result that nonetheless showcased Ribeiro's continued crucial impact on the team's fortunes.
