African Champions Amajita revived their hope of advancing to the next phase of the U20 FIFA World Cup following their 5-0 win over New Caledonia in the wee hours of Friday.

Having lost the initial game 2-1 against France in Group E, Raymond Mdaka-led team needed a positive result in their second game to stand a chance of making it out of the pool and avoid early elimination.

They came into the game as favourites owing to the quality within their squad as opposed to their opponents.

Amajita deliver in the first half

South Africa started the game quite well, dominating proceedings and pinning New Caledonia in their half.

They were rewarded in the 25th minute as Siviwe Nkwali converted Langelihle Phili’s cross, much to the relief of the technical bench and the fans as well, owing to the initial chances that the team had missed.

Mdaka's men added the second 10 minutes later; Siviwe Magidididi – who had replaced Kutlwano Letlhaku from the starting XI, was brought down in the danger zone. Shakeel April rose for the occasion to double the advantage.

With two minutes remaining to finish the first half, Magidigidi managed to make it 3-0 to ensure Amajita went to the break with a healthy lead.

It is a 5-0 win for South Africa!

After the pause, the confident Amajita continued to press for more goals to ensure they get huge win.

The red-hot Magidigidi needed seven minutes to complete his brace as he, once again, got set up by Kaizer Chiefs youngster Mfundo Vilakazi, who had also replaced Jody Ah Shene in the starting team.

It ended 5-0 in favour of Amajita as Lazola Maku's screamer found the back of the net. This is South Africa's biggest win ever, and their second in the competition. The initial one had come against Honduras back in 2009.

The next outing for the youngsters will be against the USA who are top of the group with maximum points. Amajita are third on the table, the same as France, who fell 3-0 against the USA in another Group E game.
