Mamelodi Sundowns will kick off their CAF Champions League defence away to Angolan side Wiliete SC on Sunday and fans in South Africa have a chance to watch them live.

Sundowns ended their 10-year wait for a continental title when they beat Moroccan side AS FAR in the final last season to lift Africa’s most coveted club title and add a second star to their shirts following their 2016 triumph.

With record winners Al Ahly now playing in the second tier CAF Confederation Cup, Sundowns are firm favourites to retain their title but they will face challenges along the way.

The Brazilians must first overcome the Angolan side in the second preliminary round and will be looking for a positive result away before completing the job back home next week.

Wiliete will host Sundowns at the Estadio Nacionale da Tundavala in Lubango, Huíla Province and the Brazilians can expect a hostile crowd and a familiar face within the opposition ranks as the Angolan side is home to former Orlando Pirates forward Gilberto.

How both teams qualified for Second Preliminary round

Sundowns received a bye from the first round by virtue of their superior rankings, given they are the top-rated club in Africa, while Wiliete beat Foresters Mont Fleuri FC of Seychelles 5-0 on aggregate in the first preliminary round.

Meanwhile, Sundowns are unbeaten across all competitions this season and lead the Betway Premiership Standings after seven wins and two draws in their first nine league games.

Sundowns beat Asian champions Al Ahli Jeddah of Saudi Arabia 1-0 to win the African-Asian-Pacific Cup in September and returned from international break to win the MTN8 thanks to a 2-0 victory over Orlando Pirates in the final.

They head into Sunday’s match after a 4-1 thrashing of Richards Bay in midweek which maintained their top spot on the league table.
