Bafana Bafana started their CHAN campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Algeria on Friday afternoon.
The result was massive for coach Molefi Ntseki, considering the quality of the players he had against a well-oiled Fennecs side. The result kept alive South Africa's chances of advancing from Group C, which has hosts Uganda, Guinea, and Niger.
Have a look at what the football lovers in the country said following the draw.
This is the tournament for our boys to redeem themselves
What a scandal! Algeria brought their best local league players, but still couldn’t beat South Africa’s C team, made of unknown bench players – Said Dabel
This is the tournament for our boys to redeem themselves and show that they deserve to play regularly in the league – Kabelo Tsotetsi
Which Bafana Bafana is this? Never been this lost. Molefi Ntseki has no plan B. Back four looks shaky – Motsi
I learnt that those were the only players released to play in CHAN. You can't blame the coach. We don't expect much from this team, but they have to pull up their socks and win their next game to look ahead and get out of the group at least, since we are not playing with the best of players – Navo Reddy
Bafana Bafana have no international players because most of them play in the local league in South Africa. It means this is the national team as well – Daniel Kavoi
Malibongwe Khoza must never play at the centre back position again
The game was lit, but our players are not deadly at all – Nhlanhla Patrick Maseko
Malibongwe Khoza must never play at the centre back position again. His natural position is the defensive midfield. He was excellent today – Asekho Masiza
South Africa have a tendency to concede late goals, and almost lost the match today. They love to play at the back – Thembela Mquqo
We may not have won the game, but the lads played well. A draw in the first game, not a bad outing at all – Ndyenga Lisa Vovo KaNdyenga
Molefi Ntseki will never improve South African football. Does he even know we have an identity now? If so, how is it going to work with seven defenders, four center backs, and 3 wing backs? – Malavi Mapimele
