Why ex-Pirates forward thinks Sundowns will beat Chiefs to Mabasa

Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns winger Lebohang ‘Cheezboy’ Mokoena believes Kaizer Chiefs will lose out on Tshegofatso Mabasa if the Brazilians join the race.

Mabsa is reported to be a subject of interest from both Sundowns and Chiefs as he enters the final months of his contract at Orlando Pirates.

The striker has fallen down the pecking order at Pirates, where he is behind Evidence Makgopa and Yanele Mbuthuma who coach Abdeslam Ouaddou prefers, and he is said to be looking for a way out.

That has woken up Chiefs and Sundowns who feel he can reinforce their attacks due to a number of reasons.

However, Mokoena does not feel the Glamour Boys would stand a chance if Sundowns make their intentions clear about signing Mabasa.

“I have always vowed for him to maybe make the move to Chiefs but that is probably crossing the floor,” Mokoena said on SoccerBeat.

Why will Masandawna beat Amakhosi?

“But if you are at a team like Sundowns as well, I think they stand a better chance because obviously if Sundowns put a big offer for him, he will definitely take the offer of Sundowns.

“Remember also, we are looking at Mabasa’s age. I do not think he will settle for what he is getting at Orlando Pirates if he goes to Kaizer Chiefs,” he added over the case of the 29-year-old.

SoccerBeat reported the story of Chiefs and Sundowns showing interest in the striker with Amakhosi reportedly looking to offload two strikers in June while Sundowns are not sure about the futures of Iqraam Rayners and Lebo Mothiba, hence the need for another striker.
