Why Vilakazi & former Chiefs coach are contemplating having a new striker

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi were given the mandate to co-coach AmaZulu after Pablo Franco Martin was fired due to a poor start in the Premier Soccer League.

In the ongoing campaign, Usuthu are placed 13th on the table with nine points after three wins and six losses.

The attacking department is one of the main reasons why AmaZulu have struggled to deliver consistently. Junior Dion, Msindisi Ndlovu, Senzo Ndlovu and Etiosa Ighodaro have been leading the department but seemingly, it is Ighodaro who is ready for the task having scored three goals so far.

Vilakazi has now revealed the club will be aiming at getting a quality finisher to help sharpen the team in the final third.

You can't rely on Ighodaro!

“I think it’s a worrying department, as you [journalists] are saying Dion didn’t have a good game, and we ended up using [Tshepang] Moremi, who is a winger, as a striker. He did very well because we identified that he has that appetite for exploiting spaces, and he might do well as a striker,” he told the media.

“But it’s a worrying factor. We are still looking for a striker because even in the next game, Ighodaro will be available, but you can’t rely on one person. Maybe Dion is having a rough patch for now, but he’ll bounce back, and we’ll try as coaches to help him and see what can happen.

“We still have Mbhobho [Senzo Ndlovu] but he’s still dealing with adaptation, he was playing in the ABC Motsepe League and jumped straight to the PSL. So we still need to make sure that we align him in terms of understanding the demands and expectations of his position at this level,” Vilakazi concluded.

AmaZulu will be away against Richards Bay on Saturday in the League assignment.
