Yusuf Maart: Chiefs captain out of the Netherlands tour, what’s cooking?

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs are currently in the Netherlands for pre-season ahead of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League campaign.

However, their captain, Yusuf Maart, who scored the winner in the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates, is not with the squad. According to FARPost, the 29-year-old, who recently extended his stay with the Soweto giants, is on his way out.

Reports have it that there is an agreement in place, and the move abroad is imminent.

Maart waiting for his Visa

Maart has been serving Amakhosi since July 2022, when he joined the club from Sekhukhune United. Despite his inconsistencies at the Glamour Boys, Maart peaked at the right time to inspire his team to the Nedbank Cup heroics, but that could be the only silverware he might have won in Chiefs' colours.

“Despite recently signing a new contract, an Austrian club is close to securing the signature of the former Sekhukhune United captain, who is currently in South Africa awaiting his work visa. It appears that the two clubs have reached an agreement, but the 29-year-old player is still awaiting the issuance of his visa,” the aforementioned publication reported.

Amakhosi haven't commented about the future of their captain but are fully focused on strengthening their team.

Reports have it that Edson Castillo has been released by the management. So far, Chiefs have confirmed the signings of Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Flavio Silva, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Siphesihle Ndlovu.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi is expected to get more players ahead of the new season where they will be competing domestically and abroad.
