Zambian outfit reveal best plan to silence Kaizer Chiefs in Confederation Cup

Zambian outfit Red Arrows are already looking forward to facing Kaizer Chiefs in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Red Arrows will be Chiefs’ opponents in the second preliminary round after the Soweto giants were given a bye from the first preliminary round.

The three-time Zambian champions sealed their place courtesy of a 4-0 aggregate win over Rogue of Madagascar, having won 2-0 in both the first and second legs of their first preliminary round.

Red Arrows coach Chisi Mbewe already knows his team have their work cut out against one of Africa’s giants and has spoken of how he plans to approach the match.

“I think for us to be the best, we need to compete with the best,” Mbewe told the club’s media as per KickOff. “And again, going into this game, we need to remove the name that we are playing Kaizer Chiefs.

“We are going to compete and ensure that we fight and progress to the good stage of the confederation,” the tactician further sated.

Why Zambian club won’t be pushovers

It is the second straight season in which Chiefs are playing a Zambian club in the competition after facing Zesco United at the group stage last term, winning 1-0 both home and away.

Red Arrows won two of their three league titles in 2022 and 2024 while they qualified for this season’s Confederation Cup after winning the Zambian Cup last term. They also won the league and cup double in 2024.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the first leg of the second preliminary round matches will take place over the weekend of October 16-18 while the second legs will be played between October 23 and 25.
