Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has urged his Leicester City teammates to be more clinical and to work harder for each other after they squandered a two-goal lead in their 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
The Nigerian, who provided two assists in the match, expressed his disappointment with the result, emphasizing the need for the team to remain focused as they search for their first win of the season.
Wilfred Ndidi sets up both Leicester City goals
Leicester took a commanding lead early on, with Ndidi playing a pivotal role. In the 21st minute, he set up Jamie Vardy for the game’s opening goal.
Ndidi continued to impress, providing a second assist for Stephy Mavididi to double the Foxes' lead.
However, Leicester's inability to hold onto the lead saw Crystal Palace storm back, with Jean-Philippe Mateta scoring twice to rescue a point for the home side.
Reflecting on the draw, Ndidi couldn’t hide his frustration:
“It was very disappointing because we know we almost had it, so it was really disappointing. The result does not reflect on the performance,” he said.
Despite the solid showing, he acknowledged that the nature of the Premier League means anything can happen:
“This is the Premier League and anything can happen at any moment. You could see the fight that Crystal Palace had and what they were trying to do in the game.
“We actually did brilliantly staying in the game after the first goal they scored.”
Ndidi calls on teammates to stay focused
While disappointed with the result, Ndidi chose to focus on the positives, noting that the team’s performance was strong and that the potential is there for Leicester to turn things around.
“If we had got the win, it would have been brilliant, but it’s more about the team now. We needed these points, but there’s lots of positives to take to the next one. It’s just about that now,” he said.
As Leicester sit 15th on the Premier League table with two points from four games, Ndidi urged his teammates to build on their performances and remain confident:
“Now we just let this go and take only the positives. We know we have a brilliant squad and can actually achieve more. It’s just the result that hasn’t come yet. Once we get one win, the confidence will be amazing,” Ndidi concluded.
