Born in the United Kingdom to Nigerian parents, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru started his football journey at Manchester City’s academy at the age of eight, developing his skills alongside his brother, Tom, who has also represented Nigeria at the U-20 level.
His first taste of senior football came with Sheffield Wednesday, where his tenacity and drive in midfield quickly caught the eye. With tireless running and a strong right foot, it was not going to take long before he caught the attention of other clubs.
Turkish side Hatayspor took notice and brought him to the Süper Lig, where he thrived.
His performances were instrumental in the team’s survival, as he finished as Hatayspor’s joint top scorer and even netted the crucial goal that secured their top-flight status.
Dele-Bashiru’s rise continued with a move to Serie A giants Lazio, initially on loan before securing a permanent deal by proving his ability to compete at the highest level.
His international career began in October 2023 when he made his Super Eagles debut in a friendly against Saudi Arabia. Just three days later, he opened his goal account for Nigeria against Mozambique.
His second goal came in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Uyo, underlining his growing influence in the squad.
With five caps and two goals already, Dele-Bashiru looks set to play a crucial role in Nigeria’s midfield for years to come.
