Victor Boniface is a Nigerian forward who currently represents Bundesliga club Werder Bremen (on loan from Bayer 04 Leverkusen) and the Nigerian national team.
Born in Akure in Ondo State, the 24-year-old’s talent was visible in his formative years. His breakthrough came when he joined Real Sapphire FC, where a scout from Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt discovered him, leading to a move to Europe.
During his three-year stint with Bodø/Glimt, Boniface built a ruthless reputation in front of goal, with Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise ultimately securing his signature.
His breakthrough with the Belgian club, where he played a pivotal role in their deep UEFA Europa League run, finishing among the tournament’s top scorers with six goals. His performances earned him a move to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga ahead of the 2023/24 season.
He had a stellar debut campaign, during which he served as the focal point in attack for a Leverkusen side that stunned perennial domestic champions Bayern Munich to clinch a maiden Bundesliga title, adding the DFB-Pokal and DFL Super Cup for good measure. To that thrilling and glorious run, Boniface contributed 21 goals and 10 assists.
Aside from the silverware he has won with Leverkusen, Boniface also secured two Norwegian league titles with Bodø/Glimt.
His strengths include finishing, hold-up play, and pressing. However, injuries have occasionally disrupted his form. He can be overly aggressive in challenges, leading to unnecessary fouls, and despite his physical presence, his aerial ability remains an area for improvement.
