In football betting, BTTS stands for Both Teams to Score. It’s a straightforward type of bet where you have to make a prediction whether both teams will each score at least once during the regular 90-minute game or not.
Types of BTTS Bets Explained
The BTTS market is fairly simple to understand – it means you’re betting on whether or not the two sides will score. Yet, there are several types of predictions you can make in a Both Teams To Score wager.
BTTS Yes/No (GG/NG)
This is the most popular type of BTTS bet. For this variation, you simply predict whether both teams will score (GG), which is also popularly called “Goal Goal” in Nigeria, or whether they won’t score (NG).
- BTTS Yes (GG): This means you’re betting on both teams to score, regardless of the final scoreline (e.g. 1-1, 2-1, 2-2). For example, if you place a “Yes” bet on the match between Nigeria and Ghana, and the final score is 2-1 for either team, you win. However, if the final score is 1-0, 0-1, or 0-0, you lose.
- BTTS No (NG): The meaning of Both Teams To Score No in football betting is that at least one team will not score. If the match ends 1-0, 0-0, or 3-0, your bet wins. For instance, if you bet on BTTS No for a match between Sunshine Stars of Ondo State and Akwa United, you win if one or both teams fail to score.
BTTS + Win
This bet allows you to combine a BTTS prediction with a prediction of the match winner.
- BTTS + Team A to Win: You bet that both teams will score, and Team A will win. If the Super Eagles of Nigeria play against Ivory Coast, and you bet on BTTS + Nigeria to win, you win if both teams score and Nigeria wins (e.g., 2-1, 3-2).
- BTTS + Team B to Win: Similar to the above, but you bet on Ivory Coast winning.
- BTTS + Draw: You bet that both Nigeria and Ivory Coast will score, and the match will end in a draw. For example, a 2-2 or 1-1 draw.
BTTS Over/Under
This type of bet combines the Over/Under betting market with BTTS meaning that for you to win, both teams have to score and you have to correctly guess whether the total number of goals scored in the match is more or less than a certain number (1.5, 2.5, 3.5 or 4.5).
- BTTS & Over 2.5 Goals: You bet that both teams will score and the total goals will be more than 2.5. For example, a 2-1 or 3-1 result.
- BTTS & Under 2.5 Goals: You bet that both teams will score, but the total goals will be under 2.5. For instance, a 1-1 result.
Let’s say you bet on “BTTS & Over 3.5 Goals” on an NPFL (Nigerian Professional Football League) match between Kano Pillars and Enugu Rangers on the Bet9ja app. For you to win this bet, both Kano Pillars and Enugu Rangers must both score, and the total number of goals in the match must be 4 or more. If the match ends in 3-1, 2-2, or even 8-1, you win. However, if the match ends in 2-1, 4-0, or 0-0, you lose.
BTTS in Both Halves
In this case, you bet that both teams will score in both halves of the match. For example, if Kwara United plays against Niger Tornadoes, and you bet on BTTS in both halves, you need at least one goal by each team in the first half and again – in the second half.
That’s a total of at least 4 goals scored during the match ( a minimum of two in each half, one by each team). I tend to stay away from this variant because it’s quite risky, especially if one of the teams is very strong defensively.
Example: If you place a “BTTS in Both Halves” bet on a CAF Champions League match between Al Ahly and Enyimba F.C., for you to win, both teams must score at least once in the first half and at least once in the second half.
1×2 and Both Teams To Score meaning
This is a popular combo bet that involves predicting the final outcome of the match and whether both teams will score. A perfect example is an El Classico match where you predict whether Barcelona or Real Madrid will win the match and if they'll both score at least one goal in the match.
Expert tip: We highly recommend checking the availability of the top players of both teams before placing a Both Teams To Score bet.
Both Teams To Score football bet: Do goals during extra time count?
It’s important to note that BTTS bets usually only take into account the regular 90 minutes of play, plus any stoppage time. Extra time or penalty shootouts in cup competitions are not typically included.
For example, if you place a BTTS bet on a UCL knockout match, only the goals scored during the regular 90 minutes of play would count. If you bet on both teams to score and the match ends in 0-0 in the regular time but ends in 5-2 in extra time, it means you lost because the two teams failed to score during regular play.
Why is BTTS betting popular?
BTTS betting has gained immense popularity in Nigeria over the years because it’s a straightforward bet that doesn't require in-depth knowledge of the teams or players. Yet, it brings excitement to the game and keeps you engaged until the final whistle, as even a late goal can change the outcome of your bet.
Plus, the bet is widely accessible on the best betting sites in Nigeria, with a large choice of football matches to be on, both in league matches (from Premier League to NPFL), as well as international competitions, such as AFCON or the World Cup.

Best Sites to Place BTTS Bets
When it comes to BTTS betting, some bookmakers tend to offer higher odds. Here are 3 of the best betting sites in Nigeria for BTTS betting:
- Livescorebet: This has become my favourite betting site for Both Team To Score bets recently because of its highly competitive odds. I recently compared its BTTS odds on a UCL match and found that it offered higher odds than other betting powerhouses in Nigeria such as BetKing and Bet9ja.
- Betano: Betano is second on this list because it offers impressive BTTS markets (including combo markets) to make your betting experience even better. A lot of bookmakers simply offer the ‘BTTS Yes or No' market, but Betano goes an additional mile by offering different variants of BTTS including ‘BTTS + Over/Under' and others.

BTTS Winning Tips from Our Expert
As a seasoned football betting enthusiast, I've learned a few tricks along the way to boost my BTTS success rate. Here are the main 5 factors I always consider to maximise my chances of winning on the Both Teams to Score market:
- Team Form: You should analyse both teams’ recent results, preferably their last 5 games. Focus on their attacking and defensive performances. You should consider betting on teams that always score and concede goals.
- Head-to-Head Records: Also, check their previous encounters and see how many times both teams scored at least 1 goal in their last five matches.
- Team News and Lineups: You should also watch out for news of injured or suspended powerful strikers and defenders, as this can affect a team’s goal-scoring potential.
- Match Importance: In important matches like a cup final, both teams might play more cautiously. So, before placing a bet, consider the context of the match, and what is at stake for both teams.
- Playing Styles: Some teams favour an attacking style, while others prioritise defence. Matchups between offensive-minded teams are more likely to produce BTTS results.
As you know, there is no guaranteed success in gambling but when you carefully analyse these factors, you’ll significantly increase your chances of winning your bets.
