Published on by

Egypt wrapped up their Africa Cup of Nations Group B campaign by finishing top of the standings following a 0-0 draw against Angola at Stade Adrar on Monday evening.

The result confirmed Egypt’s place in the Round of 16, while Angola bowed out of the tournament after ending third in the group with just two points from three matches.

Cagey First Half

Angola vs Egypt

Angola started brightly, dominating possession in the opening exchanges as they searched for an early breakthrough. Their first real chance came after 10 minutes when Kialonda Gaspar surged forward but blazed his effort over the crossbar.

Egypt responded midway through the half and nearly broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, with Mostafa Mohamed heading wide from close range after an acrobatic cutback into the danger zone.

The Black Sable Antelopes continued to threaten before the interval, with Chico Banza failing to finish a neat passing move in the 42nd minute. The sides went into halftime locked at 0-0.

Second-Half Opportunities

Angola came closest to scoring moments after the restart when Fredy’s superb free-kick struck the upright. Egypt immediately replied through Zizo, whose curling effort was brilliantly saved by Hugo Marques.

The game opened up in the final stages as both teams pushed for a winner, but neither could convert their chances, and the contest ended in a tense stalemate.
