Ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Bafana Bafana have intensified their preparations and so are their rivals

South Africa are in Group B with record seven-time champions Egypt, Angola and Zimbabwe and all the four teams are at different venues preparing.

Hugo Broos’ men are at the Tuks High Performance Centre in Pretoria, where they have been since Monday, and will play a friendly match against Ghana on December 16, a day before they depart for Morocco.

AFCON 2025 will take place between December 21 and January 18 and South Africa will start with Angola on December 22, Egypt on Boxing Day and complete group stage action against Zimbabwe on December 29.

So where are the rest of Group B teams camping?

Egypt have opted to camp at home given the conditions in Morocco will be similar and Hossam Hassan’s team is training in Cairo.

Hassan named his final 28-man squad on December 2 with Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah leading the star-studded team but camp started with local-based players as they wait for the six foreign-based stars to join them by December 15.

The Pharaohs will play against Nigeria on December 14, their final warmup match, before departing for Morocco three days later.

Angola, under recently appointed coach Patrice Beaumelle, opted to travel to Europe for their preparations as they started a 10-day camp in Portugal on December 8.

The Palancas Negras have lined up friendlies against DR Congo on December 13 and Mozambique on December 16 with Beaumelle announcing a 28-man squad that he will be relying on in Morocco.

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe coach Mario Marinica named his final 24-man squad on Thursday but he was rocked by the injury to Wolves midfielder Marshall Munetsi, who is set to miss the tournament.

Zimbabwe are camping in Harare but that is not how they had been planning as they intended to camp somewhere near Morocco before the tournament before a directive from FIFA, extending the player release period by European teams, messed them up.

Zimbabwe are exploring the possibilities of friendly matches with either Mozambique, Senegal or Uganda in Morocco before AFCON.
