AFCON: ‘Daylight Robbery, Egypt bought the referee against Bafana Bafana!’

Published on by

Bafana Bafana’s 27-match unbeaten run was ended on Friday evening as they fell by a solitary goal to Egypt.

A controversial penalty by Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah was all that the Pharaohs needed to book their place in the Last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Have a look at the reactions from the fans as collected by Afrik-Foot.

Referee gave Zimbabwe soft penalty but denied Bafana a clear one

The referee gave Egypt a very soft penalty, but a handball inside the box was not a penalty –  Khaya

Patrice Motsepe must charge the entire VAR team, including the referee. That was the clearest penalty I have ever seen – Kamikaze

Daylight Robbery. They bought the referee! Mohamed Salah and his Bafana Bafana team were carried to the Last 16 – Benson Benni

You guys have been avoiding playing friendlies with serious opposition to test us, and Egypt just proved how far behind we still are.  The hype that was going around after we won against a troubled Nigerian team, Rwanda, Benin, Lesotho, Zambia, etc., we could have easily won 3-1 – Football GOAT

Not the results we wanted. Now let’s focus on beating the hell out of Zimbabwe, but not with that kind of attitude that was displayed in the first half #BafanaPride – Nqobani

Beat Zimbabwe and no issues

ZIM v BAFANA
Two hands punch to each others on white background. Country flags painted fists, conflict crisis concept between south africa and zimbabwe

We were robbed, but to play a whole half with an extra man and not score even one is rubbish – Zizi

Beat Zimbabwe and no issues. We saw the same when you were qualifying for the World Cup Qualifiers – Stimela Ntshangase

Hugo Broos is arguably the best coach Bafana Bafana has ever hired, boasting an exceptional track record.  That being said, his apprehensive, submissive, unambitious, and cowardly tactics heading into the first half were the main reason we lost – Tebogo Ditshego

Egypt was tired in the second half, and we just didn’t have the mental fortitude to overrun them. Modern football requires high levels of tactical intelligence – Sbu Madiba

The boys must regroup and come back strong on Monday. I still believe in them; we will go to the Last 16 its not over yet – Gretchen_Ndou
