The agent of Mamelodi Sundowns striker Kobamelo Kodisang has clarified the reasons behind the forward's decision to return to South Africa, opting to leave Europe.

Kodisang departed from Moreirense to join the Brazilians, signing a five-year contract that will bind him to Chloorkop until June 2029.

His decision to join Sundowns came despite Moreirense’s promotion to the Portugal Premier League last season.

According to his agent, the primary factor influencing Kodisang's decision was Sundowns' upcoming participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

The 25-year-old is also aiming for a second chance in the Bafana Bafana squad, having previously been overlooked by coach Hugo Broos.

“In all honesty, the main reason is the fact that Sundowns are playing in the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025,” Makaab told FARPost.

“And Kodisang’s desire is also to play for the national team. His thoughts were that if he came back to South Africa, did well with Mamelodi Sundowns, did well with in the Club World Cup, the opportunity would present itself to be with the national team which I have no doubt, it will happen.

“One thing I’ve seen with Hugo Broos is he will select players that he believes will do the job for him.

“And we saw him recall Themba Zwane and he have given him the captaincy [lately].

“That’s the major reason for Kodisang to come back to South Africa.”

Kodisang has made three appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal in the process.
