Al Masry and Kaizer Chiefs set for epic Confed Cup showdown

Egyptian outfit Masry will be aiming for a perfect start in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage when they welcome South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs to Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium on Sunday.

The Green Eagles are drawn in Group D alongside Zamalek, Kaizer Chiefs, and ZESCO United.

“The first game is important, but not decisive. What matters is starting strong, especially at home,” said Masry’s Tunisian coach Nabil Kouki during Saturday’s pre-match press conference.
“We’ll give everything to secure the points and make our fans proud. A winning start lifts morale.”

Masry will be without defender Baher El-Mohamady (injury) and striker Salah Mohsen (suspension), forcing Kouki to reshuffle his plans.

The Port Said side booked their group stage spot after edging Libya’s Al Ittihad 2-1 on aggregate in the second preliminary round.

After Sunday’s clash, Masry travel to Zambia to face ZESCO United on 30 November, before a double-header against Zamalek. They will then visit Chiefs in South Africa on 8 February, before wrapping up the group phase against ZESCO on 15 February.
