Kaizer Chiefs are set for a tough CAF Confederation Cup outing on Sunday against Al Masry at the Suez Stadium.

The Glamour Boys are aware that they need a positive result away to stand a chance of making it out of the pool that includes Zamalek SC and Zesco United of Zambia.

Amakhosi are on the rise after a decade-long struggle, explaining their determination to get a result this weekend. Kaizer Motaung Jr. who is the Glamour Boys’ Sporting Director, is convinced the Soweto giants will return home with maximum points.

The game is crucial for Chiefs

“Getting an important three points on the board from the get-go is very important, and I think a positive start away puts us in a very good stead. Everyone’s going out there to put their best foot forward, we know that’s going to be a mammoth task ahead of us, but I think the team is very well prepared,” Motaung Jr. told the media.

“And I think we’re also very aware of the threat that’s going to face us, and we’re looking forward to it. We’re quietly optimistic and I think everyone knows how important the three points are.

“We’re going there to win, we’re playing to win, so we’re looking forward to giving our best away from home, and you know if you get those away results, it will be tough for teams coming here to South Africa in Summer, playing in the afternoons, so this is crucial for us.”

Chiefs targeting maximum points before AFCON break

Football on the continent will take a break in the next couple of weeks to pave the way for the Africa Cup of Nations to be played in Morocco from December 21 to January 18.

Zamalek will be the next Group D opponent for Chiefs and the former attacker sees nothing less than six points.

“We’re going for six points [in the two games before AFCON], what can we do? If you’re not going to win then you shouldn’t be playing, so we’re going for maximum points

“We’re going to give everything we can, and obviously we have to be very smart, use experience in the away ties and I think we’ve got the right mix within the squad with some experienced heads and some young talent who can come in and gives us the results,” Motaung Jr. concluded.
