Oswin Appollis has revealed how staying focused on his job at Polokwane City helped him deal with transfer speculation linking him to Kaizer Chiefs and Esperance.

The winger was the subject of interest from the Glamour Boys in the off-season with the Tunisian giants also reported to be mulling over a deal before they went for Elias Mokwana from Sekhukhune United.

It saw the player make headlines during the transfer window but a deal did not materialise as he remained at Polokwane to the delight of his team.

Appollis says he could not ignore the reports but decided to focus on his role at Polokwane, helping him cope with all the attention that came his way.

“Yes, because at the end of the day, there’s nothing I can do but stay focused,” Appollis told iDiski Times.

“My job is just to work hard for the club, and if I then get interest, or get an opportunity to represent the country, it’s down to me to do the hard work.

“There’s nothing I can do. And I’m at Polokwane now and I’m happy.”

The former Pretoria Callies forward has become an integral part of the Bafana Bafana squad in recent months with coach Hugo Broos trusting him, especially in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He credits Polokwane for giving him the opportunity and platform to showcase his talents which have earned him call-ups to the national team.

“No, at Polokwane, it was a very good move. It helped me also going to the PSL. Moving from Pretoria Callies to Polokwane gave me that opportunity to represent the national team because if they didn’t sign me, I might maybe still be at Pretoria Callies,” he added.

“So, Polokwane played a vital role in me going to the national team, and I appreciate what they did. And for this new season, I just want to continue working hard and working hard for the team. And we’ll see where we go from there.”

Although he is yet to score in eight matches for Polokwane this season, Appollis was key to South Africa’s qualification for AFCON 2025, scoring two goals while providing three assists, in five games.
