Ashley du Preez inspired by Mamelodi Sundowns star

Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley du Preez says he draws inspiration from Mamelodi Sundowns star Iqraam Rayners who’s been brilliant in the early stages of his tenure at Masandawana.

Rayners and Du Preez were playing together at Stellenbosch FC before they got greener pastures in Gauteng.

The striker, Rayners joined Bafana Ba Style at the beginning of the season and has scored 12 goals in 15 matches he has played in all competitions.

Du Preez sees similarities between him and Rayners, particularly their shared ability to exploit their pace by making runs behind opposing defenses.

DU PREEZ SEES SIMILARITY BETWEEN HIM AND RAYNERS

“Iqraam Rayners, I have played with him. I know how he likes to score goals, the way he plays. He has experience and as a player, I do look up to him. I have my eye on how he scores goals. Iqraam Rayners is a good example,” said Du Preez as quoted by SABC Sport.

“My preferred playing style – I have pace, I always create opportunities when I am running behind defenders.

“I think that's what you would see, week in and week out. That's basically how I want to play as a No. 9, and I can play on the left even on the right. My strength is running behind,” added Du Preez.

Du Preez also believes that he and Rayners are proving that the old notion of Cape Town players struggling to settle in Gauteng is a myth.

“I don't think so, that players struggle. As you can see I was scoring at Stellenbosch, and for me it is about remaining consistent, and to keep working on that.”
