Bafana Bafana’s Broos furious with Nicaragua after ‘negative’ football – I don’t know what they came to do here!

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos insists he was happy with the way his team played on Friday evening despite what he termed as the negative approach by Nicaragua.

South Africa hosted the Blue and White at the Orlando Amstel Arena in a pre-World Cup fixture. The visitors played a low block the entire game, with the African nation failing to hit the target in the entire first half.

Before the break, Lyle Foster had a massive chance to score from the penalty when Kamogelo Sebelebele was adjudged to have been fouled in the danger zone. However, the Burnley striker couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net as his effort came off the bar.

Oswin Appollis, Thapelo Maseko, and Evidence Makgopa had chances to score in the second half but were kept out. Nevertheless, coach Broos has now explained why he was unhappy with Nicaragua’s approach, but delighted with his players barely two weeks before their World Cup game against Mexico.

Bafana Bafana would like an opponent who plays football

“It was a very difficult game, against a very, very negative opponent – I don’t know what they came to do here, but it was just defending and kicking the ball in front,” the Belgian opened up after the match.

“When you see the last 15 minutes, one after the other was injured, it’s like they played the final of the World Cup.

That was not the goal for us; we’d like to have a good opponent who tries to play football, and that was not the case. So a little bit disappointed about the opponent – but I’m happy with the performance of my team.

“Some of the new players, some for the first time with us – I think Sebelebele, Makhanya did well, also Maseko in the second half, and the few others. It shows the deserved to be chosen, deserve to be with the team. It gives us more opportunities for next week and the World Cup,” Broos concluded.
