‘It is not clear’ – Hugo Broos disagrees with Percy Tau’s stance over his Al Ahly future

The Bafana Bafana coach has cast doubt on the sentients made by the star forward

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos feels Percy Tau is not telling the truth over his situation at Egyptian club Al Ahly.

Tau claimed in an interview last week that he is happy at the club, denying reports linking him with a move away from the side, with Kaizer Chiefs, Wydad AC and clubs in Qatar rumoured to be interested.

However, Broos disagrees with the former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker, saying he does not have to say much when everything points to a broken relationship.

“The situation in Al Ahly, you don’t have to tell me that the situation is clear,” Broos said on Monday.

Hugo Broos insists Percy Tau cannot hide what is clear

“It is not clear. He didn’t play for the last four weeks, there is a problem with the coach and I know it and it is not because I read it in the papers.”

Broos was reiterating his stance on why he dropped Tau from the squad that will face Uganda and South Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers this month.

The veteran coach said last week that Tau’s uncertainty at Al Ahly and the criticism he faces from Bafana Bafana fans are the reasons he left him out, sentiments that the player did not agree with.

Will the Lion of Judah ever return to Bafana Bafana?

“The player knows why he is not with us, I told him and that he doesn’t agree, that is another thing. It is a good thing, it means that he wants to play for Bafana Bafana,” added Broos.

“I know what he gets from criticism after a Bafana Bafana game. Don’t tell me it doesn’t affect you. Don’t tell me that, I have experience, I have been criticised also as a player and coach.

“I do not think for those intensive games that Percy will be mentally ready for them. He knows it but I don’t have a problem that he is not agreeing with what I am telling him and I feel it is a very good mentality of showing he wants to be with us.”
