Bafana Bafana vs Czech Republic: Pirates’ Appollis, Sundowns’ Rayners or Modiba — who makes your predicted XI?

Published on by

Bafana Bafana cannot afford another defeat. Two suspensions, two red cards, one chance to respond.

With Sphephelo Sithole and Themba Zwane both ruled out after their dismissals against Mexico, Hugo Broos must rebuild his starting eleven for Thursday’s World Cup 2026 clash against Czech Republic at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The Belgian is expected to revert to the 4-2-3-1 that carried South Africa through CAF qualifying — and the forced changes open the door for genuine competition across the pitch.

Afrik-Foot’s Bafana Bafana predicted XI vs Czech Republic

Ronwen Williams starts in goal as captain, shielded by a back four of Khuliso Mudau, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Aubrey Modiba—the Mamelodi Sundowns left-back, who will need to manage the threat posed by the Czech Republic’s physical wing-backs throughout the 90 minutes.

Teboho Mokoena and Thalente Mbatha form the double pivot, with Mokoena carrying a yellow card into the game and unable to afford a single rash moment.

The most significant calls come in the attacking three. Orlando Pirates winger Oswin Appollis — who scored twice and provided four assists in qualifying — is expected to finally start alongside Relebohile Mofokeng and Tshepang Moremi behind striker Lyle Foster.

Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners is the most prominent name pushing from the bench.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Williams (C); Mudau, Sibisi, Mbokazi, Modiba; Mokoena, Mbatha; Appollis, Mofokeng, Moremi; Foster
