Bafana Bafana vs S. Korea: Makgopa, Rayners or Foster? Broos told who MUST start

Published on by

Bafana Bafana are set to play South Korea in their final Group A 2026 FIFA World Cup fixture hoping for nothing but maximum points to advance.

While Hugo Broos’ men have managed a loss and a draw in their pool, South Korea have a win and a loss, meaning a point against Bafana Bafana will work for them. But South Africa will also hope that the hosts, Mexico, can stop the Czech Republic from collecting a win in another game that will be played simultaneously.

In atatcking department, Broos has three experienced strikers – Evidence Makgopa of Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns’ Iqraam Rayners and Burnely star Lyle Foster. There have been questions on who should be given priority in the crucial outing.

Ex-Bucs coach Owen Da Gama has explained what Broos should do to ensure Bafana Bafana stand a chance of beating South Korea.

Rayners, Foster or Makgopa?

“I think if you look at Sundowns, when they play, even in the Champions League, they have Leon, international striker playing there,” Da Gama said in an interview with Radio 2000.

“Iqraam was an impact player at Sundowns but he has done very well for them. I still believe we still haven’t that prolific striker, I think the coach has tried his best. I think Makgopa has done well, Rayners has given his best, Lyle Foster has given his best.

“But I don’t think we have hit the right notes there so far. Hopefully, in the next match, we can show more composure and also a better supply for the strikers.

“There was a number of long balls against Mexico and Rayners gave his best. But there was no clear-cut chances where he could score. I’m hoping [next game], they can play Makgopa because of his height. I’ve always spoken about combinations of players from the same club like Sundowns and Pirates,” he added.
