Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has revealed it will be tough to face either Brazil or Argentina in international friendly ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Mzansi are among the nine teams from the continent that managed to secure a direct ticket for the global competition – to be co hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada, by virtue of topping their respective groups in the CAF qualifiers.

South Africa are in Group A alongside Mexico, South Korea and a yet to be identified team from Europe, pending the play-offs scheduled for the next couple of days.
As a norm, nations will be coming up against top sides to prepare for the tournament that kicks off in June 11. Bafana Bafana had initially planned to play either Brazil or Argentina, but this will not be possible.
Why Bafana Bafana WILL NOT play either Brazil or Argentina
“The best scenario should be that you can play against an Asian team, a Central Americsn team and a European team,” Broos said as quoted by SABC Sport.

“A few minutes ago, I spoke to Lydia [Monyepao], the CEO, and she told me that Brazil want to play against us. I said, ‘very good, why not?’ she replied, ‘Yeah they are asking for $5 million (approximately R85 million) to come.’
“A few months ago, Argentina also wanted to play in Johannesburg against us, for 5 million euros (R98 million). You understand? It’s easy to say ‘Ah, why not that?’ So Panama is not coming free either, you have to pay also,” Broos concluded.
Bafana Bafana will now hope to beat Panama in the two meetings to prove they are ready for the 2026 World Cup.
