Sipho Mbule’s World Cup dream over? Prospects of Orlando Pirates star of making Bafana Bafana team discussed

Orlando Pirates star Sipho Mbule was part of the Bafana Bafana squad that competed in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), held in Morocco.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder proved his worth with the Soweto giants before South Africa coach Hugo Broos gave him a slot to represent the nation in the prestigious continental competition where Mzansi crashed out in the Round of 16.

Since the conclusion of AFCON, Mbule has been unfortunate at Bucs with injuries and Stiff competition from his compatriots. The 27-year-old was excluded from the Bafana Bafana squad to play Panama in two international friendlies.

This might be a massive blow for the versatile midfielder in his bid to compete with the best in the World Cup.

Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has opened up on Mbule’s prospect of competing in the tournament that will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

“He might get a chance. Remember he was part of The AFCON. So it’s not difficult to call him because he understands the philosophy and the set-up,” he opened up on the DNA Podcast.

“He was in Morocco at the AFCON. So players like that they might get a chance to be called in,” he continued.

Mbule will have to prove his worth by forcing his way into the starting team at Pirates especially after Relebohile Mofokeng’s display in the No. 10 role where he has managed three assists and seven goals in the recent 10 matches across all competitions.

Broos has already stated he intends to use him behind the strikers, a position Mbule played in Morocco.
