Bafana pay Foster price, Mabasa to replace him?

Bafana Bafana will have to play Congo on Tuesday without the services of Lyle Foster who was injured on Friday.

The Burnley striker started the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Red Devils at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, a fixture South Africa won 5-0.

The 24-year-old scored the team's fourth goal when he tapped the ball into an empty net after Elias Mokwena had done all the donkey work.

Foster set to miss the second meeting

In the 65th minute, Foster collided with Congo goalkeeper Christopher Mafoumbi in his bid to get at the end of Aubrey Modiba's low cross. The forwarded awkwardly landed on the pitch, and was unable to continue.

Iqraam Rayners was introduced, and the former Stellenbosch striker – who joined Mamelodi Sundowns in the summer, went on to score his team's fifth goal.

SABC has now confirmed the Clarets forward will not be part of Broos' team to play on Tuesday, “We have been reliably informed by Bafana Bafana doctors that Foster injured his shoulder.

“It is not a major injury but he will need a week to heal before returning to action.”

It is interesting to see who Hugo Broos will include in his team for the Congo assignment on October 15.

Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa was named in the preliminary round but did not make the final team. Many South Africans have been questioning why he has not been considered, and Broos might just give him a call.

Bafana are on seven points in Group K and a win on Tuesday will seal their place in the 2025 Afcon finals.
