Banyana Banyana vs Ghana Starting XI: “Stix” starts in the sticks against strong Black Queens

Published on by

Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has named a strong lineup as South Africa step onto the pitch to begin their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title defense against Ghana’s Black Queens tonight in Morocco.

Despite the absence of star striker Thembi Kgatlana, Ellis fielded a formidable side with goalkeeper Andile “Stix” Dlamini making a notable return to the starting XI.

Dlamini, who was surprisingly sidelined by coach Ellis in favour of Kaylin Swart, now reclaims her place between the posts, bringing experience and composure to the backline.

In front of her, the defense is anchored by Lebohang Ramalepe, Fikile Magama, Bambanani Mbane, and Tiisetso Makhubela—each ready to absorb Ghana’s attacking pressure. The midfield duo of Bongeka Gamede and captain Refiloe Jane will be tasked with dictating the tempo and linking play between defense and attack.

Up front, Jermaine Seoposenwe who recently announced her retirement from international football after this tournament will lead the line with the ever-creative Linda Motlhalo and the clinical Hildah Magaia. Their chemistry and movement will be key to unlocking Ghana’s defense.

Ghana, returning to WAFCON after a seven-year absence, are eager to make a statement under new Swedish coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren.

With a blend of youth and experience, the Black Queens are expected to pose a serious challenge.
