Barker admits Chiefs target is undergoing ‘difficult patch’ after Broos’ ‘punishment’

Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker has revealed his star attacker Jayden Adams is undergoing tough times after recent snub by Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.

The 23-year-old was overlooked by the veteran Belgian tactician after his disciplinary breach in the initial call up. It even got tougher for the creative midfielder in the Premier Soccer League owing to his suspension which happened on Wednesday after picking his fourth yellow card of the campaign in a 1-1 draw with TS Galaxy.

Broos was open enough to concede he is punishing Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns target for hsi failure to take Bafana Bafana chances seriously.

“I believe that for every player, representing your national team should be an honour, whether you are Belgian, Chinese, or South African. It should mean something to you,” Broos stated.

“If you don't feel that way, then I’m sorry, but you lack the right mentality. When I was a player and got called up to the national team, even if I had to run 100 kilometers to be there, I would do it because it was an honour for me.

If a young player like Jayden contacts you to say that he wants to arrive late for personal reasons, I’m sorry, but that is not the right mentality. At 23 years old, you need to make the effort to be here. I have imposed a bit of a punishment on him, but this punishment won’t last forever.

“It’s a job, not a holiday,” the coach concluded.

‘Adams is going through a little bit of a difficult patch' – Barker

“Jayden is going through a little bit of a difficult patch right now. I think the setback of not being selected for the Bafana Bafana squad, the two yellow cards that he picked up,” the Stellies coach told the media.

“The red card, he was on three yellows he got one he is now gonna miss the next game and starts on a zero hopefully we can get him to his best.

“It has been easy because I found that we haven’t been able to train a lot and when you are suspended like he was and you travel away you become a little bit detached from the team, training on your own and training with the Diski team.

“So, I think this break gives us an opportunity to all regroup, get Jayden back to training, and play to his best ability as I said it is what it is he is gonna miss the next game.”

It is interesting to see whether Broos will have Adams for his next assignments.
