MC Alger coach Rulani Mokwena has received praise for showing great tactical acumen and dedication in his work throughout his coaching career.

Mokwena is one of the brightest coaches in Africa and has shown it at Mamelodi Sundowns before and now in Algeria with MC Alger.

The 39-year-old had a less than impressive eight-month spell with Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club last season before moving to Algeria and one of his ex-players is not surprised that his team is currently flying.

“For me, he’s one of the best coaches in SA currently,” Cape Town City left-back Sifiso Ngobeni told iDiski Times.

The former Sundowns defender went ahead to explain the kind of work Mokwena puts in his craft that makes him so unique and successful.

“You know, he’s a good! Coach Rulani is on another level,” he added. “Like, I think, yoh, Coach Rulani eats football. He sleeps football. He doesn’t even sleep! There’s sometimes where you could see that he’s tired, but he’s there, like yoh. He loves football with all his heart.”

Is Mokwena not appreciated at home?

Ngobeni feels Mokwena has not been appreciated enough in South Africa but is thankful that he is proving his critics wrong abroad.

“And I think that’s why God now is rewarding him, even in Algeria, you can see, you know,” he added. “So it’s good that people from outside are appreciating him more than people from SA. But he’s a good coach. Good, good, good, good coach.”

Mokwena’s team are currently enjoying a 10-point lead at the top of the Algerian league while in the CAF Champions League, they revived their quarter-final chances with a win over Al-Hilal on Friday, moving to second place on the table with seven points.
