Broos delivers verdict Percy Tau’s performance against Lesotho

Published on by

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has given his thoughts on Percy Tau's performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho.

Broos' troops recorded a 2-0 win against Lesotho at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Friday evening, thanks to goals from Relebohile Mofokeng and Jayden Adams.

This victory is South Africa's third in five qualifying games (along with one draw and one loss), and it has lifted the 1996 AFCON champions to the top of their group with 10 points, ahead of Benin and Rwanda.

Broos acknowledged that Tau’s lack of game time at Al Ahly has understandably affected his form.

However, Broos believes Tau gave his best against Lesotho and is confident that the influential left-footer will regain his peak form with more playing time.

BROOS ON TAU’S PERFORMANCE AGAINST LESOTHO

“I think, and I’ve said it before, that we couldn’t be happy with Percy’s performance in the previous games,” said Broos as quoted by FARPost.

“That was not the level of Percy, and today [Friday], you can tell that he played a fantastic game but worked a lot, and that is because he’s used to playing games. When you don’t play games, you don’t have the rhythm.

“So I think the more he plays games, we’ll start seeing the best of Percy again because he’s playing now in Qatar.

“He can always do more [for Bafana], and if I’m honest, I think we can expect more, but I’m very happy with his performance because he worked a lot for the team.”
