Broos discusses Adams punishment: ‘Even Barker is not happy with his attitude’

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has challenged Stellenbosch midfielder Jayden Adams to work on his attitude if he wants to hit even greater heights.

The 23-year-old was axed from the South Africa national team in the previous international break after a disciplinary breach.

Broos then opted to leave the midfielder out of his squad to play Uganda and South Sudan respectively in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Belgian believes Adams is not having it easy at Stellies and that coach Steve Berker is not happy with him.

The attacker has already been sent off this season, and he recently collected his fourth yellow card which will put him out of the next fixture for Stellenbosch.

‘Without the right attitude, Adams will not achieve big things' – Broos

“I talked already before about attitude, if you don’t have the right attitude, you can have much as much talent as you want you will never achieve a big career, never!,” Broos told the media.

“It’s totally normal that he makes mistakes. The only thing I hope he learns about his mistakes, so I punish him. I see that after the camp he has a little bit of trouble playing for Stellenbosch that has to have a reason, that means I think that the coach is not really happy with his attitude also.

“Again, if he learns about that then there is no problem and I hope that he learns about it, and I hope he knows that having talent is not enough. You need to have the right attitude, and it should be a pity that he spoils his career by not having the right attitude. So, we have to help him because he is a young player.

“So, because he is not there now, because he was not there in the last camp, I hope for him it’s a wakeup call, and the fact that he doesn’t play at Stellenbosch that is also a wakeup call.”
