Broos fires warning to Bafana errant boys – ‘This is more than a camp’

Published on by

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has fired a warning to his players regarding their behaviour and attitude in camp.

Broos last week revealed that he had to drop some players because of their poor behaviour in the last camp during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and he has reiterated the need for discipline within the squad.

The veteran Belgian coach insists this months’ camp will have a huge bearing on his selection for the World Cup and players who are not on their best behaviour can forget a spot in his team for the global tournament.

Broos issues caution to Bafana players

“They don’t have to think that they will come here and have a nice camp and have a few games and then go back to their clubs,” Broos warned his players during his media briefing.

“No, I will really observe every moment, every minute of this camp [that] all the players behave the right way, attitude and training.

“That will be important in two months’ when I will be making my [World Cup] choices. I will say that to the players also. Tomorrow [Tuesday] we have a meeting as always on the second day of the camp and I will tell them. This is not a camp; this is more than that.”

Broos has always been forthright with his players and detests errant behaviour, something that saw him heavily criticise defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi for coming late before the AFCON 2025 preparations started.

Players like Jayden Adams have also previously faced the wrath of Broos for straying and with a World Cup slot at stake, the players will be looking to be on their best behaviour.

Bafana Bafana face Panama in two friendly matches this month, the first in Durban on Friday and the second one in Cape Town next Tuesday. This will be an opportunity for Broos not just to look at the technical side of his team but also their behaviour.
