Broos hailed for effective tactical decisions in Bafana’s AFCON win over Angola

South Africa laboured to a 2-1 win over Angola in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Goup B outing staged in Marrakesh on Monday night.

Bafana Bafana needed just 21 minutes to get the ball in the back of net thanks to Oswin Appollis who converted Lyle Foster’s assist. However, the determined Palancas Negras equalised in the 35th minute as Fredy and Show combined with the former finding the back of the net.

Tshepang Moremi, who was introduced after the break in place of Mohau Nkota, scored just five minutes after his introduction but the goal was ruled out for offside. Nevertehless, the Orlando Pirates winger teed up Foster for the second in the 79th minute.

Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has lauded Hugo Broos for the brave decisions he made in the game that paid dividends.

“Look at that ball [in the build-up to Foster’s goal], played to Moremi then back to him and he scores the final goal and a goal we had all been expecting. So I think coach now 100% he is proving it that he knows the kind of players that he has,” he said in his analysis at SABC Sport.

“Even I was saying at least [bring on] Evidence Makgopa because you know he can give us like off the ball run and all of that, tracking back, and also dead ball situations.

“But he kept him [Foster] and I know probably he’s saying no man I still have two games to play. Now, if I throw everyone in there they’ll analyse us and find us out quickly. So let me rather allow this one to finish the game.

“And he has said it before that in this game you need luck and that’s what we got,” Khumalo concluded.

The next game for Bafana Bafana will be on Friday, December 26 against seven-time champions Egypt who beat Zimbabwe 2-1 as well in their Group B assignment.
