Broos on whether potential Kaizer Chiefs’ switch would be good move for Basadien

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has expressed his views on whether a switch to Kaizer Chiefs would be a good move for Stellenbosch FC left-back Fawaaz Basadien.

As Chiefs aim to bolster their left-back options, the 27-year-old has emerged as their primary target this season.

However, Stellenbosch have been reluctant to part with the player, even going so far as to enhance his contract to ensure his continued presence at the club for the current season.

Broos recently granted Basadien a call-up to the national team, acknowledging his consistent and commendable performances with the Cape Winelands team.

The Belgian coach stated he may not be sure if it would be a good move, however, he conveyed his wish for the transfer window to close prior to any potential move by Basadien.

HUGO BROOS’ VERDICT ON FAWAAZ BASADIEN – CHIEFS LINKS

“I don’t know if it is really a good move for Basadien to go to Chiefs, I don’t know,” said Broos.

“Okay, it is Chiefs and I think it is very difficult for a player to refuse that, and, on the other side, I think everybody has to understand that Stellenbosch cannot sell all these players. There are already three important players who left.

“I’m afraid now, maybe Fawaaz maybe [might also leave the club]. I hope that for Stellenbosch, the end of September [transfer window] will come as quickly as possible because it is also difficult to keep him.

“It is not a nice thing for a club like them; they made the players, and then that’s the destiny of a team like Stellenbosch.

“But on the other side, maybe they play the CAF Confederation Cup, maybe they will be struggling or fighting for the title next year, and it is not the right thing to release all your players and to have the money.

“But then you don’t want to make a mistake when you buy another player. He has to be as good as the one who left.”
