Broos raves about Blom & why he advocates Chiefs’ return

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is happy that Njabulo Blom decided to re-join Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the 2024/25 Premier Soccer League season.

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder was not highly rated by current St Louis City coach John Hackworth, and as a result, he struggled for game time.

He had been overlooked in matches against Dallas, Juarez, and Portland Timbers which made him consider getting playing time elsewhere.

Chiefs move, Bafana benefit?

Blom has now signed a one-year loan deal with the Glamour Boys who are restructuring ahead of the new season.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos is happy with the decision, “I hope that Njabulo will come back on the level he had when he left South Africa, I said it many times, it’s good to go abroad but you have to play,” the 72-year-old stated.

“In the beginning he did, then he didn’t, then he played again, we called him more than a year ago. After that he didn’t play again, so let’s hope now with his transfer to Chiefs he will play, and he will play well.

“Players who are playing well are always candidates [to be selected] for Bafana Bafana.”

After his return, Amakhosi Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung is optimistic the partnership will surely pay dividends.

“We are excited to welcome Njabulo back to the team. His experience in the MLS and his familiarity with our Club ethos make him a valuable addition to our squad. We look forward to seeing his impact on the field because we know how valuable he is to our game model,” he told the club's media team.

Apart from Blom, Amakhosi have signed Bradley Cross, Inasio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley, Bongani Sam, Gaston Sirino, and Fiacre Ntwari.
