Bafana Bafana struggled to a 1-0 win over Ghana’s second-string side on Tuesday evening at Dobsonville Stadium.
Despite fielding fringe players, South Africa still came into the match as clear favourites owing to the quality of players. However, in the first half, they ended without a shot on target.
The hosts had to rely on individual brilliance from Sipho Mbule to get the win they needed before leaving for Morocco to compete in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Coach Hugo Broos was happy with the laboured win, but was not impressed with the display.
We still need a little bit of work
I’m happy with the result that we won the game, but I think we can play much better than today,” the 73-year-old tactician told the media.
“We didn’t really play a very good game, there was not so much movement in the team what we are used to, the passing was not good. So we still need a little bit work to be on the highest level for next week.

“I’m certain that plays in the heads also that next week AFCON starts. The players are a little bit afraid to get injured or whatever. But again I expected a little bit more from my team today, a better game but that can happen,” Broos added.
“I remember two years ago it was Lesotho in the last game we played, so that gives us hope. I’m sure the boys will be ready for Angola,” he concluded.
