CAF CL: Kekana reacts to alleged tactical leaks to Mokwena ahead of Sundowns and MC Alger date

South African football fans were treated to a controversial speculation about Mario Masha allegedly snitching Mamelodi Sundowns tactics to MC Alger, led by former coach Rulani Mokwena.

The two teams are set to meet on Saturday at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Group C of the CAF Champions League, where the defending Premier Soccer League champions need a win to advance. They are currently third in the pool with six points, two less than leaders Al Hilal Omdurman.

Miguel Cardoso and Rulani Mokwena

The People’s club are second with seven points while St Eloi Lupopo remain at the bottom with five. Realistically, all teams have a chance to make the last eight of the annual competition.

It explains the importance of the Saturday game at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium, where Masandawana are desperate for maximum points while Mokwena is determined to prove a point.

Kekana refuses to comment on controversial revelation

South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns centre-back Grant Kekana has refused to comment on the issue, insisting his job is on the pitch, and not administrative issues.

“No, I think my job is to play football. I think the technical side and management are taking care of that, and ja, that is all that I can comment on regarding that situation,” he told the media.

Grant Kekana

Kekana further commented on the pressure surrounding coach Miguel Cardoso with a section of fans feeling he should be fired.

“Yeah, I think there’s a lot of noise, especially surrounding us, but it happens when you’ve been at the top for so long. I think it’s something that we, especially the senior players, come together and even tell the younger guys not to focus too much on it because it’s expected – everyone wants to take the throne from us.”

No relationship with Mokwena

Both Kekana and Mothobi Mvala were crucial for Mokwena during his time in Mzansi. However, the 33-year-old insists this is a different meeting with no room for friendship.

“It would be good. I think he [Rulani Mokwena] played his part at Sundowns, and we will always appreciate him, but we know on the day there is no relationship during the 90 minutes.

“It’s going to be difficult, and then after the game we will probably shake hands,” he concluded.
