Magesi FC captain Elvis Chipezeze is convinced his team can cause a major upset on Saturday in the Carling Knockout final against Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Premier Soccer League newbies surprised many in Mzansi by eliminating the likes of Orlando Pirates, TS Galaxy, and Richards Bay to set a final with favourites Masandawana at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.
The 34-year-old goalkeeper – who has won a Man-of-the-Match Award four times, is convinced Dikwena tsa Meetse can win their first major title.
The Zimbabwean concedes the players are excited after reaching the final, but that can't stop them from giving their best on the pitch.
Magesi set to surprise Sundowns in Carling Knockout final – Chipezeze
“As much as we are excited, remember, there is a game that needs to be played,” the custodian opened to the media ahead of the fixture.
“We cannot be over-excited. We just want to make sure that we give it our all. This means a lot to our chairman, to our supporters and the families. We know that we are still a club that is growing and we are trying to make a mark in South Africa. I know it’s going to take time but with the blessing of God we’re now in the final of the Carling Cup.
“We have already made history for ourselves. So we just smile, go there, try to compete like any other team and everything will take care of itself because you can’t just say we’re going there to make the numbers,” Chipezeze added.
“We are also here to compete so we’re just going to go out there and try to work harder and put a smile on our supporters’ faces, especially those who are going to travel. That’s a long trip from Limpopo to Bloemfontein.”
