‘Certified Glamour Boy’ Monyane keen on making history with Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs defender Thabiso Monyane is determined to make history with Amakhosi this season.

The Glamour Boys were recently eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup and the Nedbank Cup, but are very much in the race for the Premier Soccer League title alongside leaders Orlando Pirates and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 25-year-old is now determined to help the Soweto giants either win the league or, at worst, finish second to play the CAF Champions League next season.

No one knows, we might win PSL

“I am proud to say I am a certified Glamour Boy. I am happy to have been welcomed with warm hands,” the South Africa international who joined the club from Orlando Pirates at the start of the campaign told the media.

“The journey has been good so far. It’s a new direction and we are looking forward to making history.

“I am also looking forward to the challenges during this journey … no one knows, we might win the league or finish second and play in the Champions League next season,” he added.

I didn’t know Soweto derby was on Saturday!

Meanwhile, Amakhosi defender Zitha Kwinika claims he is not aware the meeting with Bucs is on Saturday, but insisted the main focus is on the Tuesday game against Stellenbosch.

“I didn’t know we are playing the derby on Saturday, we are playing Stellenbosch [on Tuesday] and the focus is there and the other one we will see in days to come.

“We know our reality and to be honest we must not focus on the past because we can’t change it [referring to their failure to make it to the knockout phase of the CAF Confederation Cup]. What we hoped for didn’t happen, so the focus had to shift to the games in hand. Tomorrow’s game against Stellies will play a very important role going forward. We are now giving the league the full go,” Kwinika concluded.
