Chiefs and Pirates told to stay away from high-flying PSL forward

South African giants salivating at a top PSL striker have been told to forget him until next year amid increasing interest.

AmaZulu FC forward Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya has started the 2026-27 season like a house on fire as he has scored 10 goals in nine games across all competitions, including eight in seven Betway Premiership matches.

The Zimbabwean striker has been a revelation for Arthur Zwane’s side who are looking to improve on their fourth place of last season and seal a ticket to continental football next year.

Warning to Chiefs and Pirates?

However, his top form has alerted top clubs in the country with the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates seen as his potential destinations when the January transfer window opens.

AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu has, however, made it clear Ngwenya is not for sale at any price this season.

“Not this season,” Zungu told KickOff. “I can confidently assure you that none of the starting players or regulars in the team will be leaving during this season.”

“They will complete the season with AmaZulu, and this is a firm assurance from the president of AmaZulu Football Club,” he added.

Ngwenya in Golden Boot pole position

Ngwenya has taken the early lead in the Betway Premiership Golden Boot race with his eight goals three more than Nqaba Xulu of Richards Bay while Victor Letsoalo of TS Galaxy has four.

If he maintains his scintillating form, Ngwenya could be the first Zimbabwean to win the Golden Boot in the South African top flight since Knowledge Musona did it in 2010-11, having scored 15 goals, while playing for Kaizer Chiefs.

That will increase interest in the striker which will test his loyalty to Usuthu while AmaZulu will have to be ready for several big-money bids for him.
