Chiefs captain Maart claps back at critics: ‘I don’t take note’

Kaizer Chiefs paid Sekhukhune United R6 million in July 2022 for the services of midfielder Yusuf Maart.

The 29-year-old was arguably the best player at Babina Noko and commanded a place in the National Team Bafana Bafana. He has since played 65 games for the Glamour Boys across all competitions but has not yet replicated his Sekhukhune form.

He has scored just four goals and provided five assists in the two seasons he has played for Amakhosi.

It explains why a section of the Glamour Boys fans are not happy with him and have been vocal about it on social media.

However, that is not giving Maart sleepless nights, “It’s something I don’t take note of or know about, because I’m not a lot on social media, because then if you are a lot on there, you’d know what’s going on,” Maart stated.

“But surely I’m not much on it to see all these things. There’s a lot to improve [on my game] and hopefully, it will be as soon as possible.”

On Saturday, Chiefs play Marumo Gallants in the Cufa Cup fixture to be staged at the Toyota Stadium.

It will be the first game for Amakhosi across all competitions after the controversial loss against Mamelodi Sundowns on September 28. Maart insists the Soweto Giants are determined to get a win.

“I think we started well, and the game [against Sundowns] didn’t go our way, the result we wanted, but it won’t stop our momentum as a team.

“I don’t think it will bring us down, as well as the technical team.”

After the international break, Chiefs will be away against SuperSport United in the Premier Soccer League outing.
