Kaizer Chiefs may have been boosted in their pursuit of a new coach following the sacking of Portuguese tactician Pedro Goncalves by Tanzanian giants Young Africans.
Goncalves was relieved of his duties by the Tanzanian champions on Wednesday shortly after leading his team to a 1-0 win against KMC, which retained the Dar es Salaam-based side’s five-point cushion at the top of the league ahead of Steve Barker’s Simba SC.
However, early CAF Champions League elimination, when Yanga were kicked out of the competition at the group stage, inconsistencies domestically and a style of play that fans are reportedly not happy with, have been cited as the reasons for his sacking despite the team being top of the table.
Potential coaching boost for Kaizer Chiefs

That could potentially open the door for Chiefs, who are reported to have placed him on their wish list, as they look at possible candidates to take over from next season.
Chiefs are currently being led by co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, who took over following the departure of their boss Nasreddine Nabi last September, and while the club was knocked out of all cup competitions, they are on course to finishing third in the PSL, their best position in six years.
That is already changing perception among some observers who feel Chiefs should retain the two but other reports claim the Glamour Boys have drawn up a list of candidates to take over at the end of the season and they include Goncalves, ex-TS Galaxy boss Sead Ramovic, Pitso Mosimane, Benni McCarthy and Manqoba Mngqithi among other names.

With Mosimane looking unlikely and McCarthy as well as Mngqithi currently employed, Goncalves and Ramovic could potentially prove attractive as they are out of a job.
Goncalves is no stranger to South African fans as he led Angola to the 2025 COSAFA Cup following a win against Bafana Bafana in the final.
