‘I am very happy’ – Kaizer Chiefs’ Da Cruz makes transfer U-turn

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has stated that the club is not actively pursuing new players during the current PSL transfer window, but he acknowledged that an exceptional opportunity could still tempt the Soweto giants.

The club has already been active in the market, strengthening their squad with goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner and Tanzanian international midfielder Adolf Bitegeko.

Striker Khanyisa Mayo has also made his move permanent following a successful loan spell from Algerian side CR Belouizdad last season.

Furthermore, Chiefs secured the services of centre-back Thabo Moloisane, winger Langelihle Phili, and Faiz Abrahams from Stellenbosch FC.

After an early exit from the MTN8, Amakhosi’s focus now shifts to competing for silverware in the Betway Premiership, Carling Knockout, Nedbank Cup and the CAF Confederation Cup.

Despite previously indicating a need for another striker, the French coach has now tempered expectations of further additions. Five games into the 2026/27 season, Chiefs have been eliminated from the MTN8 quarter-finals and have recorded two wins and as many draws in the league.

However, Da Cruz insists he is content with his current squad and is not looking to fill any specific positions.

“For the moment, I’m happy with the squad. From my side, there is no interest in new players,” Da Cruz said at the Kaizer Chiefs Village as quoted by FARPost. “But maybe if there is a good opportunity, the club will take a position on this good opportunity.”

“But from my side, I repeat, I don’t request any new players. I’m very happy with our squad,” he added.

The coach’s comments come at a time when the team appears to be facing a shortage at left-back due to injuries.

In their recent match against Richards Bay, Pule Mmodi was deployed in the defensive role as both Bradley Cross and Paseka Mako are sidelined. Versatile right-back Reeve Frosler has also been used as a makeshift solution in that position previously.
